If you guessed player #3 Colin Smalls, then you shot the 3-pointer. Colin Smalls [@colsmals] is a sophomore attending American University, majoring in business administration at the Kogod School of Business, and a player on the Men’s Basketball team. The DMV native’s inspiration starts with the time spent at his grandparents ``always having some kind of ball in…hands whether it was a basketball, football, or soccer ball”. Smalls grandfather took the time, ardor, and flexibility to “sit on the couch and toss the ball back and forth” because of the imbued spirit for basketball Smalls carried as a child. His grandfather “eventually found a park nearby and practiced shooting lay-ups to jump shots, shoot with both hands, dribble around, and play one-on-one” that built the stepping stones for Smalls’ humbled spirit and fervor for the game. Along with Smalls aspirations to continue to grow and refine himself, his inner child is one of the primary inspirations that keeps him going today Smalls expresses that “even on the days when…doesn’t want to play” Smalls younger self “is fired to be here, playing division one basketball, doing what…loves at this level”. Smalls’ determination and investment into himself even when he’s “hurting, had a bad day, doesn’t want to go to practice'' refers to his younger self and “what he’d think'' because Small’s primary goal is to “make the next version” of himself proud. The most principal experience which defines Smalls is understanding of the ins and outs of being an athlete at a PWI like American University is through the ability to navigate the intersectionality of being a Black man and an athlete. Luckily for him he feels like “people are accepting of everybody so I don't feel like there’s a difference between that or not fitting into the community… I feel a part of the community.”Smalls strives to immerse himself into campus life and socialize with his basketball teammates and other acquaintances as he “likes to interact with other people, other students on campus, so don’t try to box myself in.”

As Euphoria’s second season comes to a close, it only seems fitting to comment on the new season. Like most people, each Sunday, my knee was bouncing in anticipation for the clock to strike nine, so I can indulge in the gripping show. With that being said, Euphoria is undoubtedly an aesthetic masterpiece. It is filled with breathtaking cinematography, amazing costume design (excuse me while I try and inevitably fail to do some of those incredible makeup looks), and one of the most pitch perfect soundtracks I have ever heard, courtesy of Labyrinth. Sam Levinson overall has done a fantastic job in creating a thrilling show that leaves the audience on the edge of their seat.

In the spirit of Black History Month, I’d like to tell you all a joke: if you’re cheese with no crackers, what are you? Answer: crackalackin! As your thunderous laughter decrescendos, I hope you hear me when I say; I am not a comedian (yes yes, you’ve caught me lackin). Unlike the Dave Chapelle’s and Wanda Sykes's of the world, my jokes are corny and stolen (shoutout KevOnStage)一 however, all I hope to do is make you laugh, and until then, I will keep crackin’ jokes. If, for some odd and illegitimate reason, you don’t like my jokes, then you might enjoy those of Wild N’ Out’s own Karlous Miller, Chico Bean, and DC YoungFly: the co-hosts of the 85 South Show.

Out of all the female characters in the DC comic universe, Catwoman is easily one of the most notable. The reason people are so intrigued by her is that she’s an intense and gritty antihero who goes from being the complete adversary of Batman to eventually changing her behavior. She does bad things, but she does them for the right reasons — and there’s something endearing about that.

Wash and go just aren’t the same in the winter season. I remember washing my hair, detangling, adding some leave-ins and feeling like I was ready to conquer the day. But, my hair was in no way ready to conquer the weather. The brisk wind of the winter undoes absolutely all detangling efforts. While hats and scarves keep you warm and are fashionable, they also contribute to frizz and tangles. The winter can turn perfect coiled and spiral-shaped curls into clumps of indiscernible frizz. But have no fear, the BlackPrint is here to help you keep your natural and curly hair nourished, moisturized and healthy during this winter season. Here are 7 winter hair care tips:

Being a teacher in America is difficult –– from having to set aside time to create detailed lesson plans, staying up late to grade piles of assignments, to receiving a low salary –– this job is definitely not for the weak. These problems are even more of a challenge for those who work in low-income or inner-city schools as they are usually poorly underfunded; these teachers are forced to adopt the role of a therapist, caretaker, and janitor. Working at schools that manage limited sources also brings a financial load; staff members oftentimes must take money out of their already low salaries to finance classroom supplies that the school cannot afford.

With the integral role sports play in American culture, athletes are often given an elevated platform to express their thoughts and opinions. At American University, the Black students are comprised of different athletes from multiple varsity teams. Students founded the club in the Fall of 2020 to help foster community amongst Black athletes in the wake of the George Floyd murder earlier that year. “The protests for George Floyd that happened throughout the summer made us more certain that this needed to happen,” former event coordinator and founding member of the club Morgan Brinson said about the group's inception. Morgan, a former Lady Eagle soccer player and current graduate student at Rice, had this to say about the organization’s impact on her time at American; “Our community as Black athletes were so small, we felt disconnected from one another. It was a way to bring everyone together and let them know we’re here for one another”. The group’s mission is “to “provide a safe and open environment for Black student-athletes to share their experiences inside and outside of their sport, empower them as people of color, educate [the AU] community on issues of social justice, and foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, and excellence within the American University athletics department”. The club fulfills its mission through organizing events for student-athletes, such as panels and game nights, as well as sponsoring different charity and fundraising initiatives. Just last year, the club used its platform to help raise over $1,000 for D.C. families in need! In the future, the club hopes to work in conjunction with the Black Student Union and the Caribbean Circle to establish a connection with the greater student body. To find out how you can help support the Black Athlete Coalition, you can follow them @aubacoalition on Instagram.

The American University athletic department is full of diverse and inclusive staff and athletes, and the women’s soccer team is no exception. American University graduate student, Asia Horne, is one of five Black women on the AU women’s soccer team. Starting at the age of 8, Horne recalls why she initially began playing soccer. She says, “[Soccer] was an outlet for me to get out all the stress, tension, and anger I was feeling at the time. It was a good release.” She tells us she’s been playing club soccer since the age of 11, and while “it’s always been very competitive”, she is “playing a lot more at AU, where every day revolves around soccer.” She adds, “[it became less of] a fun after-school activity that I did.”

TikTok has provided many of its users with influencer platforms, allowing them to express their talents through a variety of creative forms including dancing, makeup advice, and cooking tutorials, among other things. Since its rebrand from Musical.ly in 2017, the viral social media app has connected “TikTokers” with brand deals from a variety of companies seeking to gain more business exposure. However, with the structure of the app's algorithm, Black TikTokers receive less exposure on the app’s main “For You” page than their white counterparts, and are rarely given credit for the dances and trends that have undeniably contributed to the app’s success.
