The Future of Sports: Where Artistry and Athleticism Meet

BY: JENNA CADWELL

Inside The Future of Sports you will not find halls of fame or statues of legends. There will be no archived clips of athletic heroes or the run-on statistics of "so and so." East Coast vs. West Coast debates will not be tolerated. "Be Like Mike" will cease to exist.

Instead, you will find yourself in the midst of neon colored spaces, decorative sporting goods and the absence of hypermasculinity. Inside The Future of Sports, D.C.'s latest pop-up art installation, you will find the opportunity to let off steam meditatively. Feel free to take a jab at one of the four punching bags in the boxing room, or simply pose next to it.

The two-story interactive exhibition features sports like soccer, basketball, track, tennis, boxing, volleyball and cycling, each housed in different rooms throughout the space

The mastermind behind the installation is Nicole Pinedo, the founder and creative director of Made in the District (MITD), a Washington, D.C.-based media platform, creative agency and event firm. Pinedo was able to score the exhibit space thanks to her team — the artists behind the art installation — who secured funding for the project, installed exhibits and spent hours building the pop-up. A pioneer in the world of creative media, Pinedo is a real-life example of what it means to transform a dream into a reality.

The daughter of retired Bolivian soccer player Mario Pinedo, Nicole drew inspiration for her art installation from her upbringing and love of sports. Pulling from her experience as a creative director, she was able to formulate and create a never-before-seen innovative amalgamation of what many would deem to be two different worlds: art and athletics.

Between the holographic basketball court, football arcade room and volleyball court made of salt, there are 10,000 square-feet to explore. If you can't wrap your head around what exactly that looks like, check out this video for yourself.

The Future of Sports is conveniently located conveniently on H and 7th Street, NE street among an array of restaurants that will come in handy once you break a sweat inside (seriously, posing is hard).

And if you're just looking for a relaxing time in a vibrant environment, there's a cash bar on the second floor of the exhibit open daily from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

So if you're looking to break a sweat without feeling intimidated by that guy who practically lives in the gym; or you have exhausted the Smithsonian and all it has to offer; or maybe your Instagram page is simply losing its clout (don't worry it happens to the best of us), make sure to head over to The Future of Sports on 700 H St NE, Washington D.C. The exhibit is open from Oct. 6th, 2017 until Nov.30th, 2017 and best of all, tickets are only $15.

You can thank us later.
