The Dav Introduces New Drink for Hurricane Maria Victims

BY: LAUREN LUMPKIN

The Davenport Coffee Lounge in collaboration with the Center for Advocacy and Student Equity (CASE) has released a specialty drink to benefit Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico.

The drink, called The Resilient Tea, is a mango black tea that will be served both iced and hot. All proceeds from the special beverage will be donated to United for Puerto Rico, a campaign launched by First Lady of Puerto Rico Beatriz Rosselló.

The beverage will be available through October and during the first week of November. The small drink is $3, the large is $4 and the iced version of the tea will cost $4.50. The Dav is now accepting credit and debit cards as payment.

CASE and The Dav worked with American University student representatives for the Students with Puerto Rico campaign to bring this project to life. Students with Puerto Rico is a GoFundMe project started by Jose Diego Toro, a student at the University of Pennslyvania. The campaign is supported by student representatives at 98 colleges and universities and has raised more than $172,000 in just 15 days.

The Dav will also be accepting cash donations for United for Puerto Rico.

CASE Director and senior Will Mascaro says that he's looking forward to partnering with more organizations on campus to help other areas hit hard by natural disasters. "There are so many students and student organizations that are already doing great work, so rather than ignoring their efforts, I thought Student Government's resources would be better spent supporting and highlighting those efforts," he said.
