5 Reasons to be Excited About A$AP Ferg Coming to AU

BY: JENNA CALDWELL

As a part of American University's Welcome Week, Harlem-bred rapper A$AP Ferg (also known as the Trap Lord and Hood Pope) has been invited to (bless) our campus by our Student Union Board and WVAU. The two organizations will jointly host A$AP Ferg along with other musical talents in Bender Arena on August 26, at 8:00 P.M.

So what's all the hype about?

1. It's A$AP Ferg

Born as Darold D. Brown Ferguson, Jr., A$AP Ferg's 2013 debut album "Trap Lord" not only won him the Rookie of the Year BET award, but it introduced the world to one of A$AP Mob's most lyrically talented artists. His 2016 sophomore album "Always Strive and Prosper" features hits like "New Level" featuring Future, and "Back Hurt" featuring Migos.

On "Work (Remix)," his biggest single to date, he raps about how he's "Coogi down to the socks like I'm Biggie poppa." Known for his exuberant style, the 28-year-old rocks gold grills to match his gold singles and Tommy Hilfiger boxers "Keep your girl head in."

Don't worry, he's just getting started.

2. It's Free

Do you need more than that? Honestly, truly, you're probably broke. Let's face it. And if you're not broke because you were actually able to save up money from your unpiad summer internship and side babysitting gig, then you will be shortly. If you happen to be a college 1 perecenter (and not broke), you're never going to find a deal better than this so take it.

And better yet, non-AU guests can go for just $5 if they buy their ticket via eventbrite. So if you want to start the year off strong, maybe invite that girl or guy you've been messaging on tinder all summer, let them know you have a "super cool personal hook up to an A$AP Ferg concert" and see where the night takes you.

3. New Music

After dropping his latest track "Tango" in late June, the Hood Prophet has kept his fans on their heels awaiting new music. Fortunately, he delivered. Making the announcemnet via instagram, Ferg will be relesing his new mixtape "Still Striving" on Aug. 18. Therefore, AU student's will be one of the few to hear his new music live before anyone and everyone else.

4. Even More Music

A lover of all things hip-hop? Not that big of a Ferg fan, but still want want to check out new music? Your frat party playlist becoming increasingly weak? No worries. Like every other SUB Welcome Week show, there will be great openers. Joining A$AP Ferg on stage will be DMV rapper Rico Nasty and hip-hop collective Respect the Bando.

5. Major Bragging Points

As homecoming weekend approaches (for everyone but AU), our peers at other schools take this time to essentially brag about who has a better musical line-up. In a shady fashion, take this opportunity to get ahead of the game and give your instagram and snapchat stories a couple of clout points before everyone else.

What are your plans this weekend J?
Oh, something casual. I'm just seeing A$AP Ferg in concert, you?
Wow, that must be expensive.
Actually, it's free. My school just has it like that. How are things downtown?
