Don't Miss It: 'Moonlight' with AU Methodists

BY: LAUREN LUMPKIN

Do you need another excuse to see "Moonlight"? Tonight, the American University Methodist Student Association is hosting a viewing of the critically acclaimed film.

"Moonlight" is a coming-of-age film that follows the life of a gay black teen living in Miami, as he grapples with his sexuality and confronts the violence, drugs and poverty around him.

"Methodism, in general, is going towards a more progressive and accepting future," said Chrissandra Jackson, outreach and hospitality co-chair for the AU Methodist Student Association. Because of this, the Oscar-nominated movie seemed perfect to show as part of the organization's Monthly Movie with Methodists series.

The "Moonlight" viewing will be the AU Methodists' largest event to date. "We're expecting people from diverse backgrounds. More than just the AU Methodist community," said Jackson. She is looking forward to a rich dialogue during the post-movie discussion.

If a chance to watch "Moonlight" for free still isn't good enough, pizza and drinks will also be served. Come out to MGC 245 tonight at 9 p.m. to watch.
