Yara Shahidi Talks Muslim Ban

Yara Shahidi is the latest in the acting world to comment on Trump's recent executive order to ban travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S. for 90 days.

The half- Black, half- Iranian actress took to Instagram to pen a note to her followers about her parents, and the danger of xenophobic rhetoric. Read her post below.

Sincerely, A proud Black Iranian #NoMuslimBan #NoWall #WeTooAreAmerica (excuse any typos)

This wasn't all that Shahidi had to say about Trump's recent actions. At Sunday night's SAG Awards, the Blackish star told ELLE more about how she feels to be in America right now.

"I have felt like it's been personal but at the same time, I have to recognize that there are so many people going through ten times worse. There are people that are actually detained…and people that are in airports right now because they can't come here, and they're sent back home or wherever they are from," Shahidi told the magazine. "There are people that are like, 'Wait, I don't have healthcare anymore.' People are like, 'What will happen to my reproductive care?' So I'd have to say that what I have felt has motivated me to help people that are really feeling the direct effect, because I know soon that direct effect will expand to all of us."

In response to the "Muslim ban," as well as pretty much everything else Trump has done since taking office, many influencers are calling each other out for not speaking up more about what is right. With huge platforms and millions of followers hanging on their every word, tweet, and Instagram post, do actors and the social elite have a problem with speaking up and speaking out? Shahidi thinks yes.

"We have these powerful platforms, we're hoping to use them for as much impact as possible."
