The Kardashian name is one often synonymous with wealth, good looks, fame and misfortune. It's safe to say that it has been pretty difficult to keep up with the Kardashians in recent years. The family has been involved in countless number of public scandals, break-ups and what appears to be never-ending drama. The Kardashian — and Jenner — women are known for dating famous men of color. Some argue that these men (or victims) often end up in worse shape than before. This phenomenon is known as the "Kardashian Curse."
Khloé Kardashian is currently dating (and rumored to be engaged to) twenty-five year old Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Tristan Thompson. Thompson left his pregnant girlfriend, Jordan Craig, who is due in November, to be with the thirty-two year old reality star. Despite what your opinion of their situation may be, one thing is for sure: LeBron James is not happy about it.
According to a report, Thompson's teammate believes that having the Kardashian attend their basketball games will invite unnecessary media attention. He is allegedly concerned about the extra paparazzi that may be lingering around and believes that the "Kardashian Curse" is real. After winning the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors earlier this year, James appears not to want to invite any of the Kardashian karma into his Cavaliers arena.
Could James just be paranoid or is there substance behind the curse? Let's take a look at some of the past relationships the Kardashian women have been involved in.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom married in 2009 and have recently come to a divorce settlement. Kardashian filed for divorce the first time in December 2013 and again in May 2016. Odom suffered from a near-fatal overdose at a Nevada brothel one year ago. He is no longer in the NBA. Khloe also dated basketball player Rashad McCants from August 2008 to January 2009. After breaking up, he only ever played in one more NBA game.
After Kim Kardashian dated NFL running back Reggie Bush from July 2007 to March 2010, he became the center of a scandal involving his alma mater the University of Southern California. In the aftermath, USC officials ordered the removal of all his jerseys and murals from the school's football facilities. In September 2010, he broke his leg.
Kim also dated wide receiver Miles Austin and basketball player Kris Humphries, two sportsmen whose careers have flailed since their split with Kardashian. Austin was released by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015, and Humphries continues to be best remembered for his seventy-two day marriage to Kim.
Kourtney, the eldest Kardashian, has had an on-and-off relationship with Scott Disick, the father of her three children, since 2006. Disick is in-and-out of rehab and suffers from substance abuse.
We can not prove that a curse does exists, but we can look to re-occurring patterns. The Cleveland Cavaliers won their first game of the season against the New York Knicks, despite Khloe Kardashian being in attendance. Should LeBron James still be worried about the Kardashian Curse? Only time will tell.
